Which iPad Do I Have? Model Check + Case Fit (2026)
Open Settings → General → About and read the line labelled Model Name — that is your model, exactly as Apple names it. Two things trip people up. First, the field next to it usually shows a long part number (like MJK43LL/A), not the model number; tap that part number once and it flips to the short A-number (A3354-style) that identifies the hardware. Second, "10.9-inch" is not a model: the iPad (10th gen), iPad (A16) and iPad Air 4/5 are all 10.9-inch with different button, camera and thickness layouts, so a case cut for one is not a case that fits the next. Write down the Model Name and the A-number, and use the list below to pick the matching option on the product page — that pairing is the only reliable way to order a case that fits.
Where is the model number on an iPad?
- Best method (works even if the iPad is your only screen): Settings → General → About → read Model Name, then tap the Model Number field to switch from the part number to the A-number.
- Printed on the shell: Apple puts the model number on the back cover of some iPad models; on newer ones that don't show it there, it's inside the SIM tray, or on the upper side of the USB-C or Lightning connector (look into the port under a bright light).
- If the iPad won't boot: the serial number on the packaging label, or the same fields inside Settings on a Mac/PC via Finder/iCloud, will identify it. Apple's own model-number guide documents all of these locations.
What do the letters mean — part number vs model number?
- Model Name — it looks like "iPad Air 11-inch (M3)". That is the marketing name — what our menus match against.
- Part number — it looks like
MJK43LL/A. That is the configuration: colour, capacity, region. Not the model. - Model number (A-number) — it looks like
A3266. That is the hardware identity. Tap the part number in About to reveal it.
Buying by part number is how people end up with the wrong cover: the same Model Name carries several part numbers, while the A-number group is what a case is actually cut around.
Which iPad models share a case size?
Our shop currently offers 20 device options for iPad covers. Here they are against Apple's own model names (Apple's "Identify your iPad model" list, retrieved 28 Sep 2026):
- iPad A16 2025/2022 (10.9") → iPad (A16); iPad (10th generation). Years: 2025, 2022.
- iPad 7/8/9 (10.2") → iPad 7th / 8th / 9th generation. Years: 2019–2021.
- iPad Air5/4 (10.9") → iPad Air (5th generation); iPad Air (4th generation). Years: 2022, 2020.
- iPad Air6 2024 (11" / 13") → iPad Air 11-inch / 13-inch (M2). Year: 2024.
- iPad Air7 2025 (11" / 13") → iPad Air 11-inch / 13-inch (M3). Year: 2025.
- iPad Air8 2026 (11" / 13") → iPad Air 11-inch / 13-inch (M4). Year: 2026.
- iPad Mini 6/7 (8.3") → iPad mini (6th generation); iPad mini (A17 Pro). Years: 2021, 2024.
- iPad Mini 4/5 (7.9") → iPad mini 4; iPad mini (5th generation). Years: 2015, 2019.
- iPad Mini 1/2/3 (7.9") → iPad mini, mini 2, mini 3. Years: 2012–2015.
- iPad Pro 2024 (11" / 13") → iPad Pro 11-inch / 13-inch (M4). Year: 2024.
- iPad Pro 2025 M5 (11" / 13") → iPad Pro 11-inch / 13-inch (M5). Year: 2025.
- iPad Pro 2022 (11" / 12.9") → iPad Pro 11-inch (4th gen); 12.9-inch (6th gen). Year: 2022.
- iPad Pro 2021/2020 (12.9") → iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th and 4th generation). Years: 2021, 2020.
- iPad Pro 11-inch (2020/2021) → iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd and 2nd generation) — Apple calls these 11-inch. Years: 2021, 2020.

What if my iPad isn't in that list?
We're not cut for everything, and we'd rather say it here than have you bend a cover on:
- Not offered: iPad Pro 10.5-inch and 9.7-inch (2016–2017), iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st–3rd generation, original iPad Air / Air 2 / Air 3, iPad 2 through iPad 6 (the old 9.7-inch bodies), and the 12.9-inch Pro 2018 layout we don't list.
- E-readers are a different world entirely. A Kindle or Kobo is not an iPad at the same size — magnet position, sleep/wake behaviour and body depth all differ. If you're kitting out an e-reader instead, see Which Kobo Do I Have?.
If your Model Name is in the list, choose it in the Device Model menu and the cover is cut for that body.
Does a newer iPad use the same case as the older one?
Sometimes yes, often no — and "the screen is the same size" is not the test.
- Yes: iPad (A16, 2025) with iPad (10th generation, 2022); iPad mini 6 with mini (A17 Pro); iPad 7, 8 and 9; iPad Air 4 with Air 5; iPad mini 4 with mini 5. Those are the pairs our menu deliberately merges into one option.
- Listed separately, so don't assume: the Air (M2), (M3) and (M4) generations are each their own option in our menu (11-inch and 13-inch), even though the bodies look close — pick the year line your About screen matches rather than guessing "they're all 11-inch".
- No: iPad 9 (10.2-inch) into iPad 10 (10.9-inch) — different body, different button layout. And never across a brand: iPad into a Galaxy Tab.

How do I find my iPad model without turning it on?
Look for the model number printed on the back cover; if yours doesn't carry it there, check inside the SIM tray or on the upper side of the charging port.
Is "iPad Air 11-inch (M3)" the same as "iPad Air 7"?
They are the same generation of device described two ways — by chip (Apple's wording) and by sequence number (how shops and menus often label it). Our menu lists it as iPad Air7 2025 (11"), which is why we match options to Apple's model names in the list above.
My About screen shows M-letters, not an A-number. Which do I need?
The A-number. Tap the part number (M••••LL/A) once in Settings → General → About and it switches to A••••.
Do all iPad case options come in every design?
