Do Kindle Cases Fit All Kindles? A Model-by-Model Fit Guide
Search “kindle case” and the first question is not which print you like — it is whether the thing will fit. That is a fair question: Amazon has shipped well over a dozen readers with overlapping names, and three of them share a screen size without sharing a shape.
Short answer: no. Kindle cases are model-specific, and screen size is the least reliable of the three things that actually decide fit.
What decides fit (it isn’t the screen size)
Three things change between generations even when two devices look identical from the front:
- Outline and corner radius. The shell is moulded to one body. A 6-inch Paperwhite 10th Gen is 116 × 167 mm and a 6-inch basic Kindle 11th Gen is 109 × 158 mm — that gap is far more than a moulded shell can flex.
- Port and button cut-outs. Older models use micro-USB, newer ones USB-C, and the power button has moved. A cut in the wrong place means you cannot charge or wake the device with the case on.

Every Kindle, the real size, and the option to pick
These are the body dimensions we design against — width × height × depth, in millimetres. The link label is the option name you will see at checkout.
- Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen (2024), 7" — 127 × 176 × 7.8 → Paperwhite 12th 7"

- Kindle Paperwhite 5th / 6th / 7th Gen (2012–2015), 6" — 117 × 169 × 9.1, model DP75SDI for the 7th → Paperwhite 7th
- Kindle basic 11th Gen (2021 / 2022 / 2024), 6" — 109 × 158 × 8.0, models C2V2L3 / RS23CV → Kindle Basic 11th 6"
- Kindle basic 10th Gen (2019), 6" — 113 × 160 × 8.7, model J9G29R → Kindle 10th
- Kindle Oasis (grip + page buttons) — its own shell, and it fits nothing else → Kindle Oasis 2/3
- Kindle Scribe (10.2", 2022) and Scribe 2 (11", 2025) — we do not currently make Scribe sizes. Our range stops at 7 inches, and a 7-inch shell will not save a 10.2-inch tablet.
The three mix-ups behind most “it doesn’t fit” messages
- Paperwhite 11th vs Paperwhite 12th. 124 × 174 against 127 × 176. Three millimetres sounds like nothing; on a moulded shell it is the difference between “slides in” and “the cover will not close”.
- Paperwhite 12th vs Colorsoft. Same body dimensions, and we still list them as two options — pick the one that names the device you own, because that label is what our production files key on.
- Any Paperwhite vs the basic Kindle. All roughly 6 inches, none interchangeable: 109 × 158 (basic 11th) against 116 × 167 (Paperwhite 10th) against 117 × 169 (older Paperwhites).
Does a Kindle case fit a Kobo? What about Nook, Fire or iPad mini
Kobo — we make both, and they are still different shells. Kobo Clara Colour / Clara BW is 109 × 157 × 8.2 mm and the basic Kindle 11th Gen is 109 × 158 × 8.0 mm: within about a millimetre on paper, and still not interchangeable, because corner radius, the port cut and the magnet position do not travel between brands. Kobo Libra Colour / Libra 2 is 123 × 164 × 7.8 mm, roughly a centimetre shorter than a Paperwhite 11th, so a Paperwhite cover’s flap closes over the wrong part of the screen. Both Kobo sizes are listed as their own options: Kobo Clara and Kobo Libra.
Nook: no. Different bodies, and we do not make Nook shells.
Fire tablets: no. A Fire is an LCD tablet with front-facing speakers and an entirely different outline; listings that promise one case for “Kindle / Fire” are keyword stuffing.
iPad mini: no. The mini is 8.3 inches and a little over 195 mm tall — nowhere near a 6- or 7-inch reader shell.
Why the release year is not enough
“Kindle case 2024” is ambiguous, because in 2024 Amazon sold a new Paperwhite, a Colorsoft and a refreshed basic Kindle at the same time. Two devices released in the same year are not the same device. Match the technical model number printed on the back panel — DP75SDI, PQ94WIF, RS23CV and so on — rather than the year or the marketing name. Three checks before you order
- Read the model number off the back, or from Settings → Account & Settings / Device Information on the device.
- Compare it with the device list on the case page, then pick the matching option at checkout — the option is your device, the product page is your print.
- Buying a gift, or a second-hand reader with an unreadable back? Measure the body with a ruler against the millimetres above. Two millimetres of error is fine; five is not.
If it still does not fit
